The wealth of local foods, their nutritional and ayurvedic values reflects the greatness of this culture. Many of these foods have been eclipsed by the industrialised agriculture and this workshop aims teaching people how to revalue them in traditional and fusion cooking styles.

Local foods are easy to grow thus are found in abundance. They use less water, have high nutritional & medicinal values, are non-exclusive and have no ecological cost. All in all exploring & eating local foods is the most simple and direct action we can have to undermine the vast exploitation and pollution caused by industrialised agriculture.

Exploring Auroville Architecture is developed by Auroville Consulting in cooperation with local experts in order to share our experience in architecture with the world outside. During the 3-day workshop participants will get to experience the various architectural expressions at Auroville and the learning that came during the building process.

We will explore soil, seeds, local foods, medicinal plants, recycling water, enzyme & hand soaps and the importance of celebration in permaculture.

Earth and bamboo are two materials which have been used together for a wide range of traditional construction techniques in Southeast Asia. They are locally abundant, affordable and with a very low carbon footprint. They are known to be materials of the people. They can be used for crude self-construction or can be engineered with high precision.
