This session will cover the ecological restoration and reforestation work in Auroville and in its surrounding bioregion. You will learn about the journey of turning a barren land into a lush forest through the grit and determination of the early settlers in Auroville. All the regeneration work has taken an indigenous approach. These forests have also become community spaces where one can learn about vegan organic nutrition, recycling and waste minimisation, biodegradable toiletries, composting toilets, a grey water system, and, very importantly, positive and supportive emotional attitudes.

Context
Climate change and human activities are accelerating desertification on our planet. Reforestation has the capacity to turn into ecosystems where flora and fauna thrive resulting in economic benefits as well apart from environmental advantages. Auroville is a pioneering example of how desertification can be reversed and this example needs to be modelled by the rest of the world.
