Have you considered installing rooftop solar panels? Pick up your last bill and feed the data in Solsavi, a rooftop solar calculator, to gain insights into the economic benefits for you.
Tamil Nadu has announced that it will add 20 GW of solar energy by 2030. It is expected that this would be achieved in every district through distributed energy sources which includes rooftop solar. In 2021 the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission released its Generic Tariff Order for Grid Interactive Solar Energy Generating systems. The Order also introduced net metering for domestic consumers and gross metering for HT consumers. The Order further revised the Net feed-in rates to facilitate a better adoption of rooftop solar in the state. In addition, it introduced network charges for all rooftop solar systems under the net metering and net feed-in mechanism. Tamil Nadu further released a revised electricity tariff for all the categories in Sept 2022.
Considering the complex regulatory environment with multiple metering mechanisms, tariff rates, solar feed-in tariffs and network charges, determining the most appropriate rooftop solar PV capacity is a complex task. This task is usually carried out by an experienced engineer or rooftop solar installer in the planning stage of the project. The engineer would make comparisons between multiple scenarios to select the best suitable system depending on the requirements.
Through this training program and a demonstration of the web-based tool, you will be able to undertake initial assessments to determine the economic feasibility of rooftop solar installation either with or without battery storage systems.
