Hemp Paper Making Workshop

What

Hemp paper is paper varieties consisting exclusively or to a large extent from pulp obtained from fibers of industrial hemp. The chemical composition of hemp hurds is similar to that of wood, making hemp a good choice as a raw material for manufacturing paper.

At Auroville, located on the Southern coast of India, near Pondicherry.

Why

Hemp paper is significantly better for the planet. The manufacturing process requires fewer chemicals than its tree paper counterpart. We need less land and resources to grow hemp compared to trees. The hemp crop grows 60+ times faster than trees.

Overview

Hemp is much better for Papermaking than wood, Its yield is higher per acreage than wood, and Hemp paper is more stable and longer lasting.

This 1-Day workshop from 9 am to 5 pm is a learning experience and a creative one for people who like to experiment. The participants will learn all about the processes of hemp paper making.

You will be learning:

Prepare hemp fibers
Make pulp
Form sheets
