Through this workshop you will learn how to use bamboo as a construction material. The workshop will include both theory and hands-on experience. Participants will learn how to harvest, treat, and work with bamboo using both traditional and modern techniques. Participants will then go on to build structures which will be intended for real use. In the past, participants have built bridges, storerooms, showrooms, workshops, houses, public toilets, and domes using a variety of techniques which integrate bamboo, steel, jute, lime, and earth as their primary components.
Through the workshop the participants will also get to experience the various architectural expressions at Auroville and the learning that came during the building process.

Context
Bamboo with its robust structure, tensile and compressive strength is increasingly becoming a choice of material to build sustainable buildings. These qualities also make it an excellent material to build disaster- and weather-resistant construction. Additionally, compared to trees, bamboo emits 35% more oxygen and absorbs 40% more carbon dioxide.
